This Act may be cited as the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates (Amendment) Act, 2011.

The Vetting of Judges and Magistrates Act, 2011, hereinafter referred to as the "principal Act", is amended in section 2 by inserting the following new definition in proper alphabetical sequence- "pending complaint" means a complaint filed or registered with any person or body mentioned in section 18(e) at least fourteen days before the judge or magistrate is vetted".

Section 9 of the principal Act is amended (a) by deleting subsection (2) and substituting therefor the following new subsection- (2) Within seven days of the commencement of this Act, the, President, in consultation with the Prime Minister shall by notice in the Gazette and in at least two newspapers of national circulation, declare vacancies in the Board under section 7(a) and call for applications.
(b) by inserting the following new subsection immediately after subsection (13)- (14) Despite the foregoing provisions of this section, the President, in consultation with the Prime Minister may, by notice in the Gazette, extend the period specified in respect of any matter under this section by a period not exceeding twenty-one days.
