220 Girl Guides CHAPTER 220 GIRL GUIDES ACT [Date of commencement: 23rd August, 1935.] An Act of Parliament to further and protect the activities and interests of the Girl Guides Association [Cap.

93(1948), L.N.

Short title This Act may be cited as the Girl Guides Act.

Interpretation In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires Association means the Girl Guides Association incorporated under the Royal Charter granted on the 14th December, 1922; Commissioner means the person holding or acting in the office of Commissioner for Girl Guides for Kenya; Girl Guide means a Warranted Officer, Ranger, Girl Guide or Brownie recognized as such under the rules of the Association and includes all officers of the Association; rules of the Association means the rules relating to the Association contained in the book entitled Rules, Policy and Organization, as from time to time amended, and subject to any variations sanctioned in due form in accordance with those rules to meet local conditions in Kenya.

Restriction on use of uniform of the Association No person, not being duly authorized and entitled so to do under the rules of the Association, shall publicly wear, carry or bear a uniform, badge, token or emblem which is specifically adopted under those rules for the use under the authority of the Association or which could reasonably be held to be an imitation thereof so as to convey an impression that that person is entitled to wear, carry or bear the uniform, badge, token or emblem under those rules.

Restriction on sale of badges, etc.

No person shall sell, or offer for sale, an article bearing a badge, token or emblem specifically adopted for use under the authority of the Association, or which could reasonably be held to be an imitation thereof, unless he has first obtained authority from the Commissioner in writing to do so.

No person falsely to claim connexion with Association No person shall form, organize or work in connexion with or be concerned in forming, organizing, or working in connexion with, any corps or body of persons who without due authority granted in accordance with the rules of the Association claim or purport to be Girl Guides or otherwise to be connected with the Association or who hold themselves out, or pass themselves off, as Girl Guides or as otherwise connected with the Association.

Penalties A person who contravenes any of the provisions of this Act shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a penalty not exceeding two hundred shillings or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding one month or to both.
